Reuse & Recycle
YES Window Company Ltd is committed to sustainability and recognises the need to minimise waste and emissions in the environment and we feel that our contribution towards recycling and re-use is a responsible effort towards reducing the impact of Global Warming and towards helping to improve the situation.
CO2 is one of the gases that wrap the earth in an invisible blanket helping to prevent heat from escaping. Without this Greenhouse effect, the average temperature on earth would be around -18˚C, compared with the current average of around +15 ˚C. Since the industrial revolution began around 200 years ago, people have been burning growing amounts of fossil fuels – releasing more CO2, and other greenhouse gases in the process. This has increased the heating effect of the blanket, trapping more of the sun’s energy inside our atmosphere. In turn the earth’s atmosphere has increased more rapidly in a shorter period of time than it has for thousands of years.
Bio-diesel Vans
One way YES Window Company Ltd is helping to counteract the effects of Global Warming is by producing our own bio-diesel on our own premises from waste vegetable oil. Together with Methanol and Sodium Methylate the oil is produced in a Fuel Pod biodiesel processor and used to run our fleet of vehicles. Benefits to the environment are: 80% lower emissions than mineral diesel; dramatically reduces diesel pollution; biodegradable; reuse of waste vegetable oil and furthermore, lower fuel costs to the Company.
YES Window Company Ltd recognises the necessity to recycle as many waste products as we can, particularly the bulk of our waste which is glass, aluminum, wood, old PVCu and metal window frames. Yes Window Company Ltd is proud to announce that we are currently recycling 94% of all our waste products.
PVCu
PVC can be easily, mechanically recycled in order to obtain good quality recycling material. The recovery, reprocessing and ultimate installation of new PVCu windows manufactured from waste material has already been used in the construction industry. There have been huge advances in PVCu sustainability in the last 10 years and as the first UK PVC windows are now approaching 25 years of their service life there will be a greater need to recycle old frames.
Glass
The UK glass industry has the capacity to recycle over one million tons of glass each year and this coupled with the materials unique ability to be infinitely recycled without compromising its quality creates a compelling case for the recycling of glass. Currently the UK landfills around 1,400,000 tons of glass each year and YES Window Company Ltd is helping to save resources by recycling all our glass that would otherwise be land filled.
Wood
We know that trees are being chopped down at an alarming rate to use as wood and it is the forests that help protect us from carbon pollutants. YES Window Company Ltd is aware of the need to be more responsible with natural resources. Wood waste for instance can be reused as reclaimed timber, or if the quality of the wood is poor then it can be recycled into: natural & decorative mulches; surfacing material for pathway; play surfaces; pet bedding or equestrian surfacing; chipboard, MDF and products like our cedar wax alum weatherboard.
Metal
YES Window Company Ltd contributes to metal reuse. Using recycled metals to make new metals is a well-established industry in the UK. For instance the reduction in comparison to using virgin ore is 95% for aluminum. Using recycled materials makes high quality metals and reduces the need to mine natural resources, saves energy and reduces air pollution. Metals can be recycled time and time again, making new metal just as good as the metal from virgin raw materials.
YES Window Company Ltd ensures that all these materials are separated into large individual recycling skips provided by a local Waste Recycling Company and other dry recyclables such as paper and cardboard are deposited into another recycling bin and collected weekly.
Therefore YES Window Company Ltd will continue to promote an awareness of the need to recycle and reduce our waste flow and to give
back to the environment some of what we take out.
